Blinds - a buyer's guide
Not sure what type of blinds to buy? Our handy guide explains the key differences and features and should serve as a handy starting point for your decision making process. You can obtain free quotes for all types of blinds from Hillarys, Web Blinds or one of the other suppliers listed in our directory.
Roman Blinds
A modern alternative to curtains, Roman blinds are easy to operate and available in a wide range of fabrics including leather-look and suede effects. Fully-lined Roman blinds are ideal for cutting down the amount of light coming into a room whilst also helping to reduce fading of the blind fabric in strong sunlight.
Venetian Blinds
Venetian blinds offer great flexibility for varying the amount of light coming into a room. Available in four slat widths, Venetian blinds come in a wide variety of finishes including wood, metal / metallics (incl. aluminium), matt, gloss and soft sheens. They are also ideal for skylights including loft / Velux windows.
Vertical Blinds
Suitable for use throughout the home and perfect for patio windows and French doors, vertical blinds provide complete privacy when closed. They also enable you to vary the amount and direction of incoming light by tilting the vertical slats to the desired angle - ideal for protecting furniture from the sun whilst still letting light into the room. Vertical blinds come in a range of finishes including PVC options for bathrooms and kitchens.
Roller Blinds
Easy to operate and snug fitting, roller blinds will suit almost any window - including those with very narrow depths. They come in a wide range of fabrics including a selection of blackout roller blinds, which block out the light completely - perfect for bedrooms. You can also buy special skylight roller blinds for Velux-style windows.
Wood and Woodweave Blinds
Made from natural, renewable resources, wooden and woodweave blinds are similar in style to Roman blinds. They're ideal for providing shade, with softly filtered light that adds special ambiance. Woodweave blinds are made from natural fibres including bamboo, jute and poplar wood. Fibres are woven in a range of styles, each having its own distinctive appearance due to the variation of the natural materials. Venetian blinds come with a range of different shades of real wood slats, complete with wooden cord pulls and trim. Alternatively, you can choose wood effect blinds, which combine the look of wood with the practical benefits of 100% aluminium blind slats.
Conservatory Blinds
A conservatory can make a great addition to your home. Properly chosen and fitted conservatory blinds are key to making the best of the extra space, whether to provide privacy in the evening or shade and relief from the heat of the sun during the day. Blinds are available in all shapes and sizes to fit your conservatory's many and varied panes, including roof blinds, door blinds and side blinds to fit the smallest of windows.
Personalised / Picture / Photo Blinds
Thanks to the latest technology, you can order photo blinds featuring pictures from a pre-selected range or from your own digital photos, which you can upload online. You can specify how a photo should be cropped (which area of it should be used) or let designers propose the best use of the available space. You'll receive one or more proofs after ordering, to ensure you're happy with how the blind will look before they start making it. Photo blinds are usually delivered around ten days after ordering.
Hillarys, Web Blinds and other blinds suppliers operate and deliver throughout the UK including London, Hertfordshire, East and West Sussex, Lancashire, Kent, Hampshire, West Yorkshire, Merseyside, Middlesex, Cheshire, Surrey, Buckinghamshire, South Yorkshire, Berkshire, Dorset and all other counties and areas throughout the UK.
